Brad Bird, the acclaimed filmmaker behind The Incredibles and Ratatouille, is returning to original animated storytelling with Ray Gunn, a Netflix-backed feature that blends noir, science fiction, and detective drama.
What Is Ray Gunn?
Ray Gunn follows a hard-boiled detective navigating a futuristic world filled with danger. The story is described as a detective adventure that combines classic noir influences, science fiction elements, and crime, all filtered through Bird’s distinctive visual storytelling.
Setting and Genre
The film takes place in a future where humans and aliens coexist, creating an unusual backdrop for Ray’s investigations. Its genre mix spans animation, science fiction, detective fiction, action, and noir, giving the movie a tone unlike Bird’s previous major animated projects.
Inspiration and Development
The project draws from classic film noir and detective stories while incorporating futuristic technology, alien characters, and an unconventional animated setting. Bird developed Ray Gunn for years, and the project went through several changes before Netflix became involved and moved the feature forward.
Release Date
Netflix has not yet announced a confirmed release date for Ray Gunn, leaving its premiere timing and final production schedule undisclosed.
