  • Coinbase Launches Retail IPO Access for US Users, Kicking Off with Oura Smart Ring

Coinbase Launches Retail IPO Access for US Users, Kicking Off with Oura Smart Ring

Coinbase has officially opened initial public offering (IPO) access to eligible retail customers in the United States, marking a significant expansion beyond its core cryptocurrency trading services. The new feature allows users to request shares at the IPO price before public trading begins, with smart-ring maker Oura being the first company available through the program.

Coinbase Starts Retail IPO Access With Oura

Announced on September 21, the IPO service is accessible through a dedicated section in the Coinbase app. Eligible customers must fund their accounts before indicating the number of shares they wish to request. After the company publishes an expected price range, users can submit a ‘Conditional Offer to Buy,’ which can be canceled or revised while the order book remains open. However, submitting a request does not guarantee an allocation; available shares depend on customer demand and the amount supplied to Coinbase.

“This new feature is yet another step toward growing the Everything Exchange, as our US customers now gain early exposure to high-interest companies before they hit public exchanges,” Coinbase said in a statement.

Oura IPO Details: Price Range and Share Structure

Oura plans to list its common stock on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the ticker OURA. Its amended registration statement shows an expected IPO price between $40 and $44 per share. The offering covers 50 million shares: Oura will sell 13.5 million new shares, while existing shareholders will offer another 36.5 million shares. Underwriters may also purchase up to 7.5 million additional shares from selling shareholders.

Once the order book closes, Coinbase will allocate shares through its internal method. Customers may receive the full requested amount, a smaller allocation, or no shares. Allocated stock will be deposited into the customer’s account at the final IPO price and become tradable when public trading begins.

Coinbase Discourages Quick IPO Share Sales

Coinbase’s allocation system will favor customers who appear willing to hold their shares. A customer who sells allocated stock within 30 days may lose access to new IPO offerings for the next 60 days. Repeated sales within this period could also lead to smaller or less frequent allocations. These rules are designed to limit short-term flipping and distribute shares to longer-term investors.

The exchange has not disclosed every factor used by its allocation system. Coinbase Capital Markets will operate the service as a FINRA-registered broker-dealer, aggregating customer orders and routing them through Apex Clearing Corporation. The broker will act as an agent and will not underwrite an offering, hold shares in inventory, or trade against customers. Users must also complete a standard FINRA eligibility questionnaire.

    Anthropic Access Not Yet Confirmed

The launch comes as investors monitor reports about a possible Anthropic public offering. However, Coinbase has not named Anthropic as an upcoming deal or confirmed that its customers will receive shares in any future listing. The company said it plans to add more IPOs when selling-group allocations become available, with Oura remaining the only confirmed offering at launch.

Meanwhile, COIN shares rose during the session as cryptocurrency prices and related stocks also gained. The stock movement coincided with Bitcoin reaching an eight-month high near $85,000.

  • Coinbase Surges 11.7% as Bitcoin Reclaims $80K; CEO Armstrong Reaffirms $400K Target for 2030

Coinbase Surges 11.7% as Bitcoin Reclaims $80K; CEO Armstrong Reaffirms $400K Target for 2030

Coinbase shares closed at USD 194.00 on September 18, 2026, surging 11.7% during the NASDAQ session. The rally followed renewed strength in Bitcoin, which reclaimed USD 80,000 and briefly moved above USD 81,000. Yahoo Finance placed Coinbase among the S&P 500’s strongest percentage gainers that day, while TradingKey recorded an 11.66% advance.

Coinbase Global Inc. (ISIN US19260Q1076) far outperformed the broader market. TradingKey noted the NASDAQ Composite gained only about 0.40% on September 18. Crypto-related stocks, by contrast, formed one of the session’s strongest groups and posted several double-digit gains. The performance came as investors returned to digital-asset exposure, with Bitcoin’s rebound above USD 80,000 supporting interest in companies tied closely to crypto trading and digital-asset demand.

Armstrong Renews USD 400,000 Bitcoin Target for 2030

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also renewed a long-term Bitcoin projection. In a podcast shared on September 21, he said Bitcoin could reach USD 400,000 by 2030. Armstrong linked the forecast to expanding institutional adoption, clearer regulation, Bitcoin’s halving cycle, scarcity, and macroeconomic debasement. He stated that spot Bitcoin ETFs are purchasing Bitcoin at a rate 20 times higher than daily mining output, driving further demand.

Regulation and New Coinbase Products Stay in Focus

Armstrong said regulatory progress could continue even if the CLARITY Act fails to secure approval, expecting the CFTC and SEC to shape crypto rules. Coinbase also submitted a rulebook update with the SEC on September 18 regarding proposed single-stock perpetual contracts, adding a product-development angle for traders to watch.

Market attention on September 21 centers on whether Bitcoin can hold above the USD 80,000 area after its latest recovery. COIN’s recent jump, Armstrong’s bullish outlook, and the derivatives filing now shape the immediate news flow around the company.

  • How AI Agent Wallets Are Enabling Autonomous Crypto Transactions and Machine Commerce

How AI Agent Wallets Are Enabling Autonomous Crypto Transactions and Machine Commerce

AI agents are moving from merely recommending financial actions to executing them autonomously. This shift is driving demand for wallets designed specifically for software rather than humans. Agentic wallets give AI-controlled access to funds, allowing software to pay for services, trade assets, or purchase data without human intervention.

    What Are AI Agent Wallets?

An AI agent wallet is programmable infrastructure that lets autonomous software send, receive, and manage digital assets under predefined rules. Instead of giving AI unrestricted access to private keys, modern systems impose transaction limits and isolate credentials. Coinbase launched Agentic Wallets in February 2026, offering funding, sending, trading, and earning functions with per-session and per-transaction spending caps while keeping private keys separate from the AI model.

x402: Building a Machine Payment Layer

A key driver is x402, an open payment protocol based on HTTP’s 402 “Payment Required” status code. It enables software to encounter a paid resource, receive payment instructions, settle on-chain, and continue automatically. Coinbase reports that x402 has processed more than 50 million transactions. In March 2026, the protocol expanded to support nearly any ERC-20 token through Permit2 and gas-sponsorship extensions.

Real Services Are Accepting Agent Payments

Agentic payments are moving beyond demonstrations. Coinbase’s SQL API allows agents to purchase blockchain-data queries for USD 0.10 each in USDC without API keys, accounts, or human approval. Exa introduced x402 payments for premium search in April, enabling agents to discover, pay for, and consume search services automatically. Coinbase also announced an AWS integration that lets publishers using CloudFront and WAF accept agent payments.

    Why Stablecoins Fit Autonomous Transactions

Stablecoins provide programmable, internet-native settlement without requiring traditional card infrastructure. They make micropayments practical, allowing agents to purchase individual API calls, datasets, or computing resources rather than maintaining subscriptions. This could support a machine economy where software pays other software as tasks arise.

Traditional Payments Are Moving in the Same Direction

The trend extends beyond crypto. Reuters reported on September 10 that India’s National Payments Corporation is developing a registry to verify AI agents making payments through UPI. UPI processed 24.51 billion transactions worth INR 29.82 trillion in August 2026. India’s framework is expected to begin with small purchases and incorporate spending limits, identity checks, and audit trails.

    What Are the Risks?

Financial autonomy creates new security questions. An agent could misunderstand instructions, interact with malicious services, or make unauthorized purchases. Wallet providers therefore need strong permissions, spending limits, credential isolation, transaction screening, and reliable audit records. Human approval may also remain necessary for high-value or unusual transactions.

    Why This Matters

Agentic wallets could change how digital commerce works by allowing software to become an economic participant rather than simply an assistant. If AI agents can securely control limited budgets, they could independently purchase data, computing resources, and services while reducing human involvement in routine transactions.

    Final Thoughts

AI agent wallets are turning crypto wallets from passive storage tools into programmable financial infrastructure. The technology remains early, but growing x402 usage and integrations across crypto, cloud services, and traditional payment networks suggest autonomous transactions are moving closer to practical adoption.

    FAQs

What is an AI agent wallet?
An AI agent wallet is programmable infrastructure that allows autonomous software to send, receive, and manage digital assets. Spending limits and permissions restrict what an AI agent is allowed to do.
What is x402 in crypto payments?
x402 is an open payment protocol based on HTTP’s 402 “Payment Required” status code. It enables AI agents and software to automatically discover, pay for, and access online services.
Why are stablecoins useful for AI agents?
Stablecoins provide programmable digital payments without requiring traditional card infrastructure. They support small payments for individual API calls, datasets, computing resources, and other digital services.
Are AI agent wallets safe to use?
Agentic wallets introduce risks, including unauthorized purchases, malicious services, and incorrect AI decisions. Security measures such as spending limits, isolated private keys, transaction screening, and human approval can reduce these risks.
How could AI agent wallets change digital commerce?
AI wallets could allow software to independently purchase data, computing power, and online services within predefined budgets, supporting machine-to-machine commerce where autonomous software conducts routine economic transactions.

  • Coinbase Developing AI Financial Accounts as Agentic Trading Expands

Coinbase Developing AI Financial Accounts as Agentic Trading Expands

Coinbase is taking a significant step toward integrating artificial intelligence into mainstream finance. CEO Brian Armstrong revealed on September 9 that the exchange is building a financial account designed specifically for AI agents, building on existing tools that already allow software to trade within controlled portfolios. The announcement came in response to a question from Ruby on Rails creator David Heinemeier Hansson about the possibility of an “agentic bank” for autonomous routine spending. Armstrong did not provide details on launch dates, product names, fee structures, or regulatory frameworks.

Coinbase for Agents: Controlled Trading Today

Coinbase for Agents currently enables supported AI applications to connect with Coinbase Advanced Trade through a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server or a local command-line interface. This setup gives agents access to designated portfolios rather than a customer’s entire account, ensuring a layer of security and control.

Coinbase advises users to create a separate portfolio and fund it only with assets they are willing to expose. Customers can also limit an agent’s permissions to that portfolio, reducing the funds available for unexpected orders. The service supports spot trading across more than 900 cryptocurrency pairs. Eligible US customers can also access futures, S&P 500 equities, portfolio monitoring, and USDC-to-dollar conversions, subject to regulatory and account restrictions.

Portfolio Limits Define the Current AI Model

Agents can transfer assets between authorized Coinbase portfolios through approved API permissions, but those permissions do not allow withdrawals to external blockchain addresses. Customers can revoke an application’s access at any time through Coinbase security settings. Models such as Claude or ChatGPT can connect through a local MCP server, operating through an isolated sub-account with user-defined transaction limits rather than unrestricted access to cards or outside wallets.

The question now is whether Coinbase will extend these controls from trading into routine payments and merchant spending. The company has not disclosed whether the planned AI financial account will support cards, bank transfers, recurring bills, refunds, or direct merchant payments.

x402: A Payment Protocol for AI Agents

Coinbase is also developing x402, a payment protocol designed around pay-per-request transactions. This model lets AI software pay for individual actions from a USDC balance without relying on conventional subscription flows. Currently, x402 works through Agentic Wallet rather than direct integration with Coinbase for Agents. Direct x402 support inside Coinbase for Agents represents another planned step alongside any broader financial account announcement.

Broader AI Integration and Strategic Moves

The company has expanded its use of AI internally and across customer products. Earlier in 2026, Armstrong cut about 14% of Coinbase’s workforce, or roughly 700 employees, while shifting toward smaller AI-native teams. In August, AI agents gained access to derivatives and S&P 500 stocks. Coinbase also tested autonomous travel planning through AWS AgentCore, including USDC hotel payments on Travala using Base.

Meanwhile, Coinbase continued expanding beyond spot cryptocurrency trading. The exchange filed two SEC registrations for US stock perpetuals, although those filings did not establish a product launch date. The company also appointed Anthony Armstrong to its board in early September.

As Coinbase moves forward, it has not detailed how identity checks, disputes, refunds, or legal responsibility would work when software initiates transactions. These questions remain central to the future of AI-driven finance.

  • Coinbase Reports $359M Net Loss as Prediction Markets Revenue Surges

Coinbase Reports $359M Net Loss as Prediction Markets Revenue Surges

Coinbase missed second-quarter revenue estimates and reported a $359 million net loss. Crypto transaction income weakened as market activity fell. Prediction markets expanded rapidly, giving the exchange a broader source of future revenue and greater diversification.

Coinbase reported second-quarter revenue of $1.22 billion, below the $1.30 billion consensus estimate, as weaker crypto trading drove a $359.5 million net loss. Yet prediction markets revenue more than doubled.

    Revenue Miss Deepens Quarterly Loss

Revenue fell 14% from the previous quarter and 19% from a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA dropped 31% sequentially to $208 million, far below the expected $327 million. The net loss compared with a $1.43 billion profit one year earlier. It included a $209.5 million unrealized markdown on crypto assets that Coinbase held for investment.

Transaction revenue declined 21% to $599 million as broader spot trading volume fell 25%. Subscription and services revenue also dropped 12% to $555.1 million. This result missed Coinbase’s original target range of $565 million to $645 million. The company now expects third-quarter subscription and services revenue between $500 million and $580 million.

A 14% headcount reduction lowered costs, although those savings did not fully offset weaker activity. Coinbase shares fell after hours following the revenue miss and third consecutive quarterly loss.

    Prediction Markets Lead Product Expansion

Prediction markets delivered one of Coinbase’s strongest operating results. Annualized revenue from the business rose 106% from the previous quarter and moved above $100 million. Users entered event contracts tied to politics, sports, economic releases and other real-world outcomes. Coinbase also expanded into stocks, derivatives, tokenized assets and stablecoin-based payments.

Can prediction markets scale quickly enough to reduce Coinbase’s reliance on spot crypto trading? The business now supports Coinbase’s plan to develop an ‘everything exchange.’

Market Share Rises in a Smaller Market

Coinbase increased its share of global crypto trading volume to a record 10.3%, up from 9.1% in the previous quarter. It marked the company’s third consecutive record quarter. Derivatives volume remained steady even as the broader market contracted 12%. Average USDC balances across the Coinbase ecosystem also climbed 44% year over year to $20 billion.

Management expects clearer US regulation, including progress on the proposed CLARITY Act, to support broader institutional participation. However, near-term performance remains closely linked to crypto prices and market activity.

    A Brief Roundup

Coinbase faced weaker revenue, lower transaction income and a third consecutive quarterly loss. At the same time, prediction markets revenue doubled, market share reached a record and USDC balances rose. The key takeaway remains Coinbase’s effort to build broader income sources while crypto trading stays cyclical.

  • Coinbase Adds Native INJ Support: Trading, Deposits, and Withdrawals Now Live

Coinbase Adds Native INJ Support: Trading, Deposits, and Withdrawals Now Live

Coinbase has officially launched support for Injective’s native INJ token, enabling spot trading, deposits, and withdrawals directly through the Injective network. The update provides users with direct access to INJ transfers and exchange services without relying on wrapped or bridged versions.

With this rollout, Coinbase customers can buy and sell INJ on the exchange’s spot market and transfer the token between Coinbase and external Injective addresses. The exchange documents asset launches and transfer availability on its status history page, allowing users to check current operating status before placing orders or initiating transfers.

This launch follows a previous integration where Coinbase’s x402 protocol launched on Injective, enabling artificial intelligence agents to pay network fees. The latest update, however, focuses on direct retail access to INJ trading and native network transfers.

    Deposits and Withdrawals Enable Self-Custody

Native support allows deposits and withdrawals to move through Injective’s own network infrastructure. Unlike a trading-only listing, holders can now withdraw INJ to compatible external wallets and deposit native tokens into Coinbase before selling or using exchange services.

This functionality matters because it gives users control over where they store their tokens and allows them to move INJ between Coinbase, personal wallets, and other compatible platforms. However, customers must select the correct network before sending tokens. A transfer through an unsupported blockchain or token format could prevent Coinbase from crediting the deposit.

Coinbase’s transfer guidance advises users to verify network compatibility and asset formats. Customers should review deposit or withdrawal details displayed inside their accounts before approving transactions.

    Listing Widens Injective’s Market Visibility

As a widely monitored cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase’s support increases INJ’s visibility among users who rely on the platform for spot purchases and digital asset transfers. The update covers three common exchange functions—buying, depositing, and withdrawing—through the Injective network.

Broader exchange availability can make an asset easier to discover and access. Nevertheless, a new listing does not confirm future demand, market performance, or lasting price movement. This development follows other Coinbase events, including the settlement of the SEC’s Gensler-era lawsuit against the company.

Users should confirm that Coinbase displays the native Injective network before transferring tokens and compare the displayed address and network details with their external wallet.
