Gold Prices Edge Higher on MCX as Crude Oil Plunges Over 5%; Key Levels to Watch

Gold futures traded higher on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on August 3, supported by a declining US dollar and a sharp drop in crude oil prices after US President Donald Trump confirmed that talks with Iran would take place on Monday. August gold futures rose 0.28% to Rs. 1,43,780 per 10 grams, while September silver futures advanced 0.89% to Rs. 2,19,124. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures fell 5.05% to $83.49 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) declined 5.76% to $79.79 per barrel.

    Domestic Gold Prices

In the domestic market, 24K gold was trading at Rs. 1,44,220 per 10 grams, while 22K gold stood at Rs. 1,32,200. Regionally, Mumbai and Kolkata quoted gold at Rs. 1,44,600, Delhi at Rs. 1,44,370, and Chennai at Rs. 1,44,550.

    US Gold Prices

Spot silver rose 1.4% to $58.46, platinum climbed 0.5% to $1,650.63, and palladium firmed 1.6% to $1,293.50.

    Key Levels to Watch

“Gold has made a relatively cheery start to the week, but gains remain limited given the uncertainty around the oil markets and the Middle East, so it’s an upbeat but guarded start for the metal,” said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade. He added that any renewed escalation in the Middle East pushing oil higher, or a strong Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) print that reinforces September rate-hike odds, could cap the upside.

International support and resistance: Gold has support at $4,014 and $3,980 per troy ounce, with resistance at $4,074 and $4,110. Silver support is at $56.80 and $56.30, with resistance at $59.40 and $60.

On MCX: Gold support is at Rs. 1,42,750 and Rs. 1,42,200, with resistance at Rs. 1,44,000 and Rs. 1,44,550. Silver support is at Rs. 2,15,500 and Rs. 2,14,000, with resistance at Rs. 2,19,000 and Rs. 2,20,500.

Gold Price Today: MCX Gold Falls 0.57% to Rs 1,42,413 as Profit Booking and Stronger Dollar Weigh

Gold prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) declined on July 31, as profit booking and a stronger US dollar weighed on the precious metal. August gold futures fell 0.57% to Rs 1,42,413 per 10 grams. September silver futures also declined by 0.53% to Rs 2,18,805.

In the international market, spot gold dropped 0.6% to $4,076.53 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery lost 0.4% to $4,074.20. Spot silver fell 0.8% to $58.48 per ounce, platinum slid 1.7% to $1,631.77, and palladium declined 0.8% to $1,294.

Crude oil prices also edged lower, with Brent crude futures falling 0.98% to $88.16 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) declining 1.47% to $82.36 per barrel.

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, traders now see a 63% probability of a rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in September. This expectation, combined with a stronger dollar and escalating tensions in the Middle East, has injected volatility into the precious metals market.

Despite the daily decline, gold has found support around the $4,000 level, attracting buyers on dips. “Gold is showing a mild negative bias today amid profit-taking and a moderate bounce in the US dollar, following the metal’s gains yesterday,” said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade. He added that gold has had a better run this month, with key support near $4,000.

    Key Levels to Watch

Internationally, gold has support at $4,064 and $4,020, with resistance at $4,120 and $4,155 per troy ounce. Silver has support at $58.20 and $57.70, with resistance at $59.80 and $60.60 per troy ounce.

On MCX, gold has support at Rs 1,42,400 and Rs 1,41,750, with resistance at Rs 1,44,000 and Rs 1,45,100. Silver has support at Rs 2,17,700 and Rs 2,16,000, with resistance at Rs 2,22,200 and Rs 2,24,500.

    Domestic and US Gold Prices

In India, 24K gold rose by Rs 27 to Rs 1,44,600 per 10 grams, while 22K gold advanced by Rs 25 to Rs 1,32,550. Prices in Mumbai and Kolkata were at Rs 1,44,600, Delhi at Rs 1,44,750, and Chennai at Rs 1,44,600.

US gold prices found support from bargain buying near the $4,000 level, as investors weighed Middle East developments and their impact on the US rate outlook.

Gold Prices Inch Higher on MCX as Fed Holds Rates; Brent Crude Slips Below $90

Gold futures traded higher on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on July 30, despite a stronger U.S. dollar and rising 10-year Treasury yields, after the U.S. Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged. August gold futures rose 0.26% to Rs 1,42,150 per 10 grams. In contrast, September silver futures declined 0.59% to Rs 2,16,200, while Brent crude futures fell 1.14% to $89.71 per barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also edged lower by 0.81% to $83.78 per barrel.

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, market expectations for a September rate hike dropped to 63% from 81% before the Fed’s policy decision, reflecting a shift in sentiment after the central bank’s announcement.

    Domestic Gold Prices

In the domestic spot market, 24-karat gold rose by Rs 82 to Rs 1,44,330 per 10 grams, while 22-karat gold advanced by Rs 75 to Rs 1,32,300. Prices remained consistent across major cities: Mumbai and Kolkata quoted Rs 1,44,330, Delhi Rs 1,44,480, and Chennai Rs 1,44,330.

    U.S. Gold Prices

In the international market, gold prices edged higher on Thursday as investors assessed comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh on inflation following the rate hold. Spot gold gained 0.3% to $4,076.29 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for August delivery rose 1% to $4,073.60. Spot silver added 0.4% to $57.86 per ounce, palladium climbed 1.5% to $1,264.49, and platinum dipped 0.6% to $1,602.34.

    Key Levels to Watch

Analysts noted that gold’s upward momentum was supported by a perceived lack of urgency from the Fed to raise rates. “I think the markets were surprised, and somewhat disappointed by Warsh and his general approach. He seemed kind of disengaged from the need to raise interest rates,” said Edward Meir, analyst at Marex. “The markets have gone up to fight inflation, but he doesn’t seem to be doing much, and so this has helped gold go up.”

On MCX, gold is expected to find support at Rs 1,41,100 and Rs 1,40,400, with resistance at Rs 1,42,650 and Rs 1,43,300. Silver has support at Rs 2,15,500 and Rs 2,13,300, and resistance at Rs 2,20,000 and Rs 2,23,100.

In contrast, silver futures for September delivery gained 0.32% to Rs 2,16,530. Meanwhile, crude oil prices surged, with Brent crude futures rising 4.27% to $87.68 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbing 4.21% to $82.60 per barrel.

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, traders now see a 76% probability of a rate hike in September by the US Federal Reserve, fueling uncertainty in the precious metals market.

    Domestic Gold Prices

In the Indian market, 24K gold fell by Rs 86 to Rs 1,43,510 per 10 grams, while 22K gold declined by Rs 60 to Rs 1,31,550. Regionally, Mumbai and Kolkata recorded identical prices at Rs 1,43,510, Delhi at Rs 1,43,660, and Chennai at Rs 1,43,510.

    US Gold Prices

In the international market, gold prices remained largely steady as investors awaited the Fed’s policy decision and comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh for clues on inflation and interest rates. Spot gold was little changed at $4,029.08 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery edged down 0.2% to $4,028.10.

Spot silver gained 0.9% to $57.65 per ounce, platinum inched 0.3% higher to $1,600.40, and palladium slipped 0.7% to $1,261.

    Key Levels to Watch

Kelvin Wong, senior market analyst at OANDA, noted, “Gold is very much connected to today’s FOMC meeting. The scenario that may see a potential reversal of the recent bearish bias in gold prices will be the Fed turning to a less hawkish rhetoric.”

Internationally, gold has support at $4,010 and $3,974 and resistance at $4,070 and $4,110 per troy ounce. Silver has support at $56.80 and $56 and resistance at $58.40 and $59.10 per troy ounce.

On the MCX, gold has support at Rs 1,40,800 and Rs 1,40,000 and resistance at Rs 1,42,200 and Rs 1,43,100. Silver has support at Rs 2,14,000 and Rs 2,12,200 and resistance at Rs 2,17,700 and Rs 2,20,000.

  • Indian Rupee Strengthens 28 Paise as Crude Oil Drops to $92 Per Barrel

Indian Rupee Strengthens 28 Paise as Crude Oil Drops to $92 Per Barrel

The Indian rupee started the week on a strong note, gaining 28 paise against the US dollar after global crude oil prices fell sharply. On Monday, the rupee opened at 96.25 against the dollar, compared to Friday’s close of 96.53, driven by a 4.17% decline in Brent crude oil to around $92 per barrel.

Market analysts attribute the rupee’s strength primarily to the drop in crude oil prices. India imports the majority of its crude oil, so lower oil costs reduce the country’s import bill and the demand for US dollars, providing support to the domestic currency.

Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the United Nations, commented on the situation, noting that President Donald Trump is giving negotiations ‘a little bit of room.’ Waltz added, ‘We’ve had both Oman and Iran, and a number of our other negotiators, engaged at every level, from the most senior levels all the way down to the technical level over the past few weeks and particularly in the past few days.’

The dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of six major currencies, fell 0.26% to 101.04, further supporting the rupee’s gains. Traders said a weaker US dollar combined with lower oil prices boosted market confidence.

Experts suggest that future movements in the currency market will depend on global events, including oil price trends, US economic data, and decisions by major central banks. These factors will continue to influence the foreign exchange market.

A sustained fall in crude oil prices could have broader economic benefits beyond supporting the rupee. Lower oil prices can reduce transportation costs as fuel becomes cheaper, which may help slow the rise in everyday prices. If crude oil remains low for an extended period, inflation could ease further, benefiting both businesses and consumers while giving the Indian economy more room to grow.

  • Indian Markets Extend Losing Streak for Fifth Day as Crude Oil Fears Bite

Indian Markets Extend Losing Streak for Fifth Day as Crude Oil Fears Bite

Indian equity benchmarks ended Friday’s session under heavy selling pressure, capping their fifth consecutive day of losses. Investors reacted to surging crude oil prices, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, weak corporate earnings, and continued foreign fund outflows. The bearish trend was visible across sectors, with banking, auto, and metal stocks leading the decline. The sell-off also pushed the benchmark indices towards their worst weekly performance in nearly four months.

    Overall Market Performance

At 2:50 PM, the Sensex was down 272.00 points, or 0.36%, at 76,119.39, while the Nifty fell 81.70 points, or 0.34%, to 23,787.90. Market breadth remained negative, with 1,792 shares advancing against 1,944 declines. Broader markets also remained under pressure, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices declining as risk aversion intensified.

The weakness was largely driven by Brent crude climbing above $100 per barrel, raising concerns over inflation, India’s import bill, and corporate profitability. Investors also remained cautious following disappointing quarterly earnings from several large-cap companies.

    Top Gainers and Losers

While some stocks managed to post gains, the majority of sectors faced significant losses. The detailed list of top gainers and losers is available in the original report.

    Market Trends

Friday’s decline was indicative of a risk-off scenario. The equity markets fell back as uncertainty rose following new events taking place in the Middle East. Increased oil prices were a major source of concern for Indian markets as they can potentially cause inflation, increase the trade deficit, and reduce the bottom line for businesses.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued to reduce their positions, while the weakening Indian rupee became an additional factor causing uncertainty. Poor performance by large corporations dampened investor confidence.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Sharply Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 178 Points, Sensex Sinks Over 600 Points on Rising Oil Prices

Indian Stock Market Opens Sharply Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 178 Points, Sensex Sinks Over 600 Points on Rising Oil Prices

The Indian stock market opened sharply lower on Friday, dragged down by weakness in global markets and a surge in crude oil prices that has stoked inflation fears and dampened investor sentiment. At the opening bell, the Nifty 50 fell 178 points, the Sensex declined 633 points, and the Bank Nifty edged over 0.70% lower.

On Thursday, the Sensex had already declined 363.66 points, or 0.47%, to close at 76,391.39, while the Nifty 50 fell 126.65 points, or 0.53%, to settle at 23,869.60. The Indian rupee also opened lower at Rs. 96.63 per dollar on Friday, compared to Thursday’s close of Rs. 96.57.

Institutional activity showed a mixed picture. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) stepped up buying in Indian equities on July 23, purchasing shares worth Rs. 2,947.14 crore. In contrast, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs. 2,999.23 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a bearish candle on the daily chart and is holding a lower top formation on intraday charts, supporting further weakness from current levels.

“As long as the market is trading below 77,000, weak sentiment is likely to continue on the downside. The correction wave is likely to persist till 76,000. Further downside may also continue, which could drag the index to 75,700-75,500. On the flip side, above 77,000, the sentiment could change. Above this level, the market could bounce back to 77,300-77,500. The intraday market texture is uncertain and volatile; hence, level-based trading would be the ideal strategy for day traders,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 continues to exhibit a corrective trend after extending losses for the fourth straight trading session. The index formed a high-wave candle on the daily chart, indicating that selling pressure remains intact.

The index is currently testing the important support area between 23,800 and 23,750, where the 50-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) coincides with multiple swing lows formed over the past five weeks.

“On the downside, a breach below 23,800-23,750 on a closing basis will accelerate downside towards the 23,500 levels in the coming weeks, being the confluence of the trendline support joining lows of April and June 2026, bullish gap area of June 15, 2026, and 61.8% retracement of the recent up move from 23,070-24,530,” said Bajaj Broking Research.

The brokerage added that a move back above 24,000 could temporarily halt the recent decline and pave the way for a recovery towards 24,200 during the coming week.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

The Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle pattern with lower highs and lower lows on the daily chart, indicating weakness in the near term.

A sustained move below the 56,200-56,500 support zone could trigger further weakness towards the 55,500-55,000 levels, which coincide with a key trendline support and the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the previous rally.

“A shallow retracement signals overall positive bias and a higher base formation in the current corrective decline. On the higher side, 57,500 will act as an immediate hurdle, while the upper band of the recent consolidation, placed around 58,500-58,700, will act as a stiff hurdle in the index in the coming weeks,” said Bajaj Broking Research.

Gold prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) experienced a decline on July 23, driven by profit booking after a 2% surge in the previous session. The retreat comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices.

August gold futures fell 0.48% to ₹1,44,984 per 10 grams, while September silver futures dropped 0.40% to ₹2,26,090 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures climbed 2.30% to $96.23 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) advanced 1.81% to $88.40 per barrel.

    Domestic Gold Prices

In the Indian market, 24K gold rose by ₹77 to ₹1,47,280 per 10 grams, while 22K gold increased by ₹70 to ₹1,35,000. City-wise prices showed Mumbai and Kolkata at ₹1,47,280, Delhi at ₹1,47,420, and Chennai at ₹1,46,520.

    US Gold Prices

In the United States, gold prices held steady on Thursday, pulling back from two-week highs reached in the previous session. The escalating Middle East conflict, particularly the US-Iran tensions, continued to push oil prices higher. Spot gold was little changed at $4,132.01 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery fell 0.4% to $4,134.60.

Spot silver gained 0.3% to $59.90 per ounce, platinum rose 0.7% to $1,656.24, and palladium advanced 0.8% to $1,301.25.

    Key Levels and Analyst Insights

“Oil continues to be up, adding to pressures of inflation and expectations of Fed interest rate hikes, capping a positive undertone in gold as the dollar weakens,” said Jigar Trivedi, a senior research analyst at IndusInd Securities.

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, traders now see a 77% chance of a September rate hike by the US Federal Reserve. Key support levels for MCX gold are at ₹1,44,400 and ₹1,43,350, while resistance stands at ₹1,46,800 and ₹1,48,000. For silver, support is at ₹2,24,400 and ₹2,22,000, with resistance at ₹2,29,100 and ₹2,31,000.

“We suggest long-term investors must hold their long positions in gold and silver, but traders can book profits in every market rise in gold around ₹1,47,000 and ₹1,48,000 range and in silver around ₹2,31,000 and ₹2,33,000 range,” advised Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvifinmart Commodity Research.

Nifty 50 Opens 0.15% Lower, Sensex Drops 210 Points as Geopolitical Tensions and Crude Prices Weigh on Indian Markets

The Indian stock market opened lower on Wednesday, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices and persistent geopolitical tensions. At the opening bell, the Nifty 50 fell 37.25 points, or 0.15%, while the Sensex declined 210 points. The Bank Nifty also dipped 66.95 points, or 0.12%.

On Tuesday, the Sensex had dropped 238.41 points, or 0.31%, to close at 77,470.11, while the Nifty 50 fell 50.80 points, or 0.21%, to end at 24,187.70. The Indian rupee opened lower at Rs. 96.36 per dollar on Wednesday, compared to Tuesday’s close of Rs. 96.24.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on July 21, purchasing equities worth Rs. 1,650.16 crore. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs. 656.88 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed an indecisive candle on the daily chart, indicating that the current range could break in either direction. “A decisive break will be confirmed only if the market surpasses 78,700 or slips below 76,800 on a closing basis. Until then, the market is likely to remain stock-specific with limited movement. The preferred strategy remains unchanged: reduce weak long positions in the 78,300-78,600 zone, while selectively accumulating quality stocks on declines,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 continued to consolidate in Tuesday’s session and closed near the 24,200 mark after range-bound movement throughout the day. “Going ahead, the index is expected to extend the recent consolidation and trade in the broad range of 23,800-24,350 in the coming sessions. Within the consolidation, 24,000-24,100 is the immediate support. We expect the index to hold above that and head toward the upper band of the range and last week’s high of 24,370,” said Bajaj Broking.

The brokerage added that a decisive breakout above 24,370 could pave the way for the index to move toward 24,600. On the downside, the 24,000-23,800 zone remains a crucial support area.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty formed a Doji candle with a long upper shadow, indicating profit booking at higher levels after recent gains. “Going ahead, only a move above the June high of 58,700 would confirm a breakout from the ongoing consolidation and could trigger the next leg of the rally toward 59,300 and eventually 60,000 levels in the coming weeks. Failure to do so will signal an extension of the last six weeks’ consolidation,” said Bajaj Broking.

Analysts believe the banking index is likely to remain range-bound unless it manages to break above the key resistance level of 58,700.

  • Stock Market Wrap: Sensex Drops 567 Points, Nifty Slips Below 24,100 During Broad Sell-Off

Stock Market Wrap: Sensex Drops 567 Points, Nifty Slips Below 24,100 During Broad Sell-Off

Indian benchmark indices ended Wednesday’s session in the red, as selling pressure across banking, IT, and pharmaceutical stocks dampened investor sentiment. Rising crude oil prices, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and global trade uncertainties fueled a risk-off mood, extending the recent losing streak for both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 despite selective gains in auto stocks.

    Market Performance

The BSE Sensex closed at 76,903.37, down 567 points (0.73%), while the NSE Nifty50 settled at 24,021.75, losing 166 points (0.69%). Selling was widespread, with 15 of the 16 sectoral indices finishing in negative territory. Pharma stocks tumbled amid new US tariff concerns, while bank stocks declined on weak earnings reports. Midcap and small cap indices also ended lower.

    Top Gainers and Losers

Top Gainers: Some stocks posted gains, though exact percentage changes were not disclosed in the end-of-day summaries. Notably, the automobile sector delivered decent quarterly results despite the broader market weakness.

Top Losers: Banking, IT, and pharma stocks were among the worst performers, dragged by profit-taking and external headwinds.

    Market Trends and Key Takeaways

Wednesday’s decline underscores the heightened sensitivity of Indian equities to global developments. Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz pushed crude oil prices above $92 per barrel, raising concerns about India’s import bill, inflation, and corporate profitability. Additionally, new US tariff proposals on imported drugs weighed heavily on pharmaceutical companies.

The trading session also highlighted the importance of earnings reports: while the auto sector posted decent results, overall sentiment remained cautious. Moving forward, investors will closely monitor geopolitical events, crude oil price movements, foreign institutional investor (FII) activity, and the ongoing earnings season. Market volatility is likely to persist until clearer signals emerge.
