Destiny 2 Emergency Patch Disables Divinity After Critical Bug Disrupts Raid Gameplay

Bungie has released an emergency update for Destiny 2 on July 7, disabling the Exotic trace rifle Divinity following reports of a major gameplay bug. The decision has left raid teams scrambling to adjust their strategies, as Divinity has long been a cornerstone weapon for endgame activities.

The bug, which players began reporting after the June 9 update, caused Divinity to malfunction in ways that broke its core function. The weapon is designed to create a large critical weak point on enemies, making it easier for the entire fireteam to land precision shots. However, the glitch prevented this effect from working correctly, leading to frustration in high-stakes encounters like raids and Grandmaster Nightfalls.

Bungie acknowledged the issue and attempted to investigate, but with limited resources following recent layoffs on the Destiny 2 team, a quick fix proved impossible. As a result, the studio opted to disable Divinity entirely until a permanent patch can be deployed. No return date has been announced, though Bungie has confirmed that work on the fix is underway.

Why Divinity Matters in Destiny 2

Divinity is one of the most relied-upon Exotics in the game, not for its own damage output but for its team-support capabilities. In raids, one player typically equips Divinity to generate a generous critical hit zone on bosses, allowing the rest of the squad to deal massive damage with ease. This simple mechanic has made it a staple in nearly every raid team’s loadout for years.

With Divinity now disabled, raid groups must adapt. Some may turn to alternative Exotics like Tractor Cannon, which applies a debuff, or focus on stacking damage buffs through abilities and mods. Others may need to refine their coordination and aim without the crutch of a large weak point. While the change is disruptive, some players see it as an opportunity to experiment with underused weapons.

    History of Disabled Exotics

This isn’t the first time Bungie has temporarily removed an Exotic due to bugs. Over the years, the studio has disabled items like Telesto (multiple times), Anarchy, and even the Witherhoard catalyst when issues arose. These actions are taken to maintain game balance and fairness while the development team works on proper fixes.

For now, Destiny 2 players will need to adjust their tactics. Bungie has assured the community that resolving the Divinity bug is a top priority, but until then, raiders must prove their skill without one of their most trusted tools.
