Nifty 50 and Sensex Slide as Indian Markets Open Lower on US-Iran Tensions

The Indian stock market opened lower on September 28, 2026, as US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, escalating geopolitical tensions. The Nifty 50 opened 75.6 points (0.33%) lower at 23,064.90, while the Sensex declined 160.91 points to 73,734.83. The Bank Nifty also fell 232.6 points to 55,347.80.

The Indian rupee weakened by 7 paise to Rs. 95.88 per dollar. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs. 3,696 crore on September 25, extending their selling streak, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs. 2,838 crore during the session.

    Sensex Technical Outlook

According to Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited, the Sensex continues to exhibit a sideways-to-bearish trend. The 73,200-73,450 range is emerging as a key support zone. Sustained buying above 74,000 could reinforce recovery and push the index toward 74,200-74,500. However, a breach of the support zone may trigger renewed selling pressure. Traders should monitor the 73,500-74,000 range and changes in open interest for confirmation of the next move.

    Nifty 50 Technical Outlook

The Nifty 50 remains under short-term selling pressure with a corrective trend, and the weekly structure indicates weakness. The daily RSI at 34 reflects weak momentum. A meaningful recovery would require sustained buying interest. The immediate hurdle is at 23,350, followed by resistance at 23,500-23,600. On the downside, support lies at 23,050-22,960, with 22,800 as the next important level. A decisive breakdown below 23,000 on higher volumes would reinforce the bearish structure.

    Bank Nifty Technical Outlook

The Bank Nifty declined 1.38% and extended its losing streak to five consecutive weeks, trading below key moving averages. The immediate support is at 55,000, and a break below could bring 54,400 into focus. On the upside, 56,800 remains the key resistance. Experts suggest a “sell on rise” strategy as long as the index stays below this resistance. A bounce toward 56,100-56,200 could provide an opportunity to initiate fresh short positions.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 16 Points, Sensex Rises 240 Points Amid Global Headwinds

Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 16 Points, Sensex Rises 240 Points Amid Global Headwinds

The Indian stock market opened on a mixed note as oil prices edged higher and bond yields rose, dampening investor sentiment amid fears of slowing economic growth. The Nifty 50 opened at 23,330.30, down 16.2 points, while Bank Nifty opened flat at 56,361.90, up 3 points from its previous close. The Sensex, however, rose 240.22 points to 74,535.18.

The Indian rupee opened higher at Rs. 95.82 against its previous close at Rs. 95.87 on Friday.

On September 18, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in the cash market, purchasing equities worth Rs. 599.54 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were also net buyers, with total acquisitions of Rs. 1,019.69 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

“The Sensex is likely to maintain a sideways outlook, with the 73,500-73,700 zone acting as the broader support area. Sustained buying above 74,600 could support a recovery towards 74,800-75,000, while weakness below 74,000 may increase downside pressure. Traders should monitor the key OI levels and wait for a decisive breakout or breakdown before taking fresh directional positions,” said Sachin Gupta, VP, Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 formed a bearish candlestick on its weekly chart, highlighting a weak short-term trend. Currently, the market is in oversold territory, indicating a high chance of a sharp pullback from current levels.

For traders, 23,200 and 23,150 can remain the key support zones. As long as the Nifty holds above these levels, a pullback towards 23,500 is possible. If the Nifty manages to press above 23,500, a further recovery towards 23,600-23,700 is likely. However, a prolonged fall below 23,150 would weigh on investor sentiment and push the index towards 23,000-22,800, said Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

The Bank Nifty fell 0.44% during the week, marking its fourth consecutive weekly decline. However, the index seems to be trying to form a base around the 55,600-55,700 area, which also coincides with a notable horizontal support zone.

“The index could provide support to the broader market and witness a rebound towards 57,000, which also coincides with the 55-day EMA. As long as the index holds its recent lows, a cautious buy-on-dips approach is recommended, although traders should remain vigilant given the prevailing broader weakness,” said Dr. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services Ltd.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Higher as Falling Oil Prices Boost Sentiment: Nifty 50 Rises 64 Points, Sensex Gains 260 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Higher as Falling Oil Prices Boost Sentiment: Nifty 50 Rises 64 Points, Sensex Gains 260 Points

The Indian stock market opened higher on Thursday, buoyed by a decline in global oil prices and mixed cues from international markets. The Nifty 50 index started the session at 23,334.70, gaining 64.1 points or approximately 0.28%, while the Bank Nifty advanced 117.1 points from its previous close. Meanwhile, the Sensex climbed 260.65 points to reach 74,575.24.

Broader market participation improved, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 0.52% and the Nifty Smallcap index gaining 0.86%. The Indian rupee opened flat at Rs. 95.87 against the US dollar.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the cash market on September 17, offloading shares worth Rs. 3,208.76 crore. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers, purchasing Rs. 3,617.75 crore worth of equities.

    Sensex Outlook

According to Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited, the Sensex is expected to maintain its negative bias unless it breaks above the resistance zone of 74,700–75,000. On the downside, the 73,500–74,200 range serves as a critical support area. If the index falls below this level, selling pressure may intensify.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 ended Thursday’s session 53 points higher, forming a small green candle with an upper shadow on the daily chart. The recent recovery has emerged from the key support zone around 23,100–23,000. However, the index lacks strength to reverse the prevailing trend of lower highs and lower lows.

On the upside, the 23,400–23,500 zone poses strong resistance. A sustained move below 23,000 could trigger a deeper correction.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

The Bank Nifty formed a long upper-shadow bearish candle, indicating strong supply at higher levels. The sharp rejection from the day’s high suggests sellers remain active. Immediate support is seen at 55,500–55,700, while resistance lies at 56,300–56,500.

Gupta noted that the broader range for the Bank Nifty is likely to be 55,500–56,500, with a near-term sideways bias. An upside breakout above 56,500 would improve the technical structure, whereas a fall below 55,500 could add further downside pressure.

  • Indian Markets Open Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 22 Points, Sensex Down 154 After Fed Rate Hike

Indian Markets Open Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 22 Points, Sensex Down 154 After Fed Rate Hike

The Indian stock market opened on a negative note on September 17, 2026, following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s announcement of its first interest rate hike in three years, along with plans for further increases later this year. The Nifty 50 index started the session at 23,195.25, down 22.35 points (approximately 0.1%), while the Bank Nifty fell 165.85 points from its previous close. The Sensex declined 153.83 points to 74,182.62.

    Broader Market Performance

Broader markets also faced pressure, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index ending flat and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index closing marginally lower. The Indian rupee opened weaker at 96.01 per U.S. dollar, compared to the previous close of 95.95.

    Institutional Activity

On September 16, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs. 2,000 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) supported the markets by purchasing equities worth Rs. 3,900 crore during the day.

    Sensex Technical Outlook

Technically, the Sensex recorded an intraday pullback from lower levels after a slow start. However, the short-term trend remains weak. According to Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, “For day traders, 74,300 will act as an immediate resistance zone. Below these levels, weak sentiment is likely to continue. On the downside, the market could retest the 74,000–73,500 levels. On the upside, above 74,300, the pullback can extend towards 74,600–75,000.”

    Nifty 50 Technical Outlook

On Wednesday, the Nifty 50 formed a small green candle with wicks on both sides, signaling indecision among traders. The daily RSI remains in the oversold zone but has recovered from yesterday’s low, indicating some improvement in momentum. Immediate support for the index is near 23,110–23,120, representing the lows of the previous two trading sessions. A decisive close above 23,460 would provide the first indication of improving short-term sentiment. A break below 23,110 would signal renewed weakness and could extend the decline toward 23,070, followed by 22,850.

    Bank Nifty Technical Outlook

The Bank Nifty is consolidating near the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the previous upward move from 52,783 to 58,706. Nevertheless, the general undertone remains weak as the index continues to trade below both short- and long-term moving averages. Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted, “Going forward, the 55,700–55,600 zone is likely to serve as an important support area for the index. A sustained breach below 55,600 could intensify selling pressure and open the door for further downside towards 55,000, followed by 54,500 in the near term. On the upside, the 56,700–56,800 zone is expected to act as a significant resistance band, and the index would need to surpass this hurdle to improve the short-term technical outlook.”

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 0.48%, Sensex Falls 361 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 0.48%, Sensex Falls 361 Points

The Indian stock market opened lower amid mixed global trends. The Nifty 50 was down 113.05 points or 0.48% at the open to 23,522.05, while Bank Nifty started 278.7 points below the prior close. Sensex fell 361.36 points to 75,216.22.

The broader market outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices ending marginally higher. The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at Rs. 94.87 per dollar on Wednesday against Tuesday’s close of Rs. 94.82.

Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers on Tuesday, offloading Rs. 123 crore of Indian equities, while domestic institutional investors bought a net Rs. 1,350 crore, according to NSE data.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a bearish candle on the daily chart and is holding a lower top formation, which is largely negative.

“For day traders, 75,800 would act as an immediate resistance zone. Below this, a weak formation is likely to continue. On the downside, the market could retest the levels of 75,200-75,000. On the flip side, if the index closes above 75,800, the pullback could extend till 76,000-76,300,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head, Equity Research, Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 formed its second consecutive bearish candle on the daily chart, indicating that the ongoing corrective trend remains intact. The Nifty 50 has now moved close to its July 2026 low of around 23,606, making the current support zone particularly important for traders and investors.

The index has approached a crucial support area between 23,600 and 23,500. A failure to hold above this range could result in a further decline towards 23,300 in the coming weeks. On the upside, any recovery attempt may face significant resistance around the 24,000-24,050 zone.

“Pullback attempts from the current oversold territory will face stiff resistance around 24,000-24,050 levels, being the recent breakdown area and 20-day EMA. The support area is likely to reverse its role and act as resistance in the short term,” said Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle with a lower high and lower low, which suggests that the corrective decline in the banking index is continuing. The index closed below the immediate support level of 57,000, which has now become an important level to watch. If Bank Nifty remains below 57,000, the decline could extend towards the 56,500-56,200 range. This zone is considered an important short-term support area as it represents the confluence of the 52-week EMA and the lower band of the index’s nine-week trading range.

“Immediate bias in the index continues to remain down, and only a formation of higher highs and higher lows on a sustained basis in the daily chart will signal a pause in the downtrend. A move above 57,000 will lead to consolidation in the range of 57,000-58,000,” said Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Lower: Nifty 50 Falls 0.15%, Sensex Drops 161 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Lower: Nifty 50 Falls 0.15%, Sensex Drops 161 Points

The Indian stock market opened lower on Tuesday amid mixed global cues. The Nifty 50 slipped 36.05 points (0.15%) to 23,743.10, while the Bank Nifty started 97.9 points below the prior close. The Sensex fell 161.18 points to 75,970.28.

The broader market was mixed: the Nifty Midcap index dropped 0.5%, while the Smallcap index remained flat. The Indian rupee opened unchanged at Rs. 94.51 against the US dollar compared to the previous close of Rs. 94.49.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs. 280 crore on September 7, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers, purchasing Rs. 566 crore worth of equities.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a bearish candle on the daily chart, indicating persistent selling pressure and weakness.

“76,300 would act as a key resistance zone. Below this, a correction wave is likely to continue. On the downside, the market could slip to 76,000-75,600. On the flip side, above 76,300, a pullback could continue till 76,500-76,700,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 continues to show weakness. The index formed a bearish candle on the daily chart, and the close below 23,800 points to a continuation of the ongoing corrective phase.

The immediate trend remains negative as long as the index trades below 24,025. Sustained weakness below this level could drag the Nifty towards the 23,600-23,500 support zone. On the upside, 24,150 is expected to act as a key resistance level. The zone gains importance as it coincides with last week’s high and the 50-day EMA.

“Key observation in the daily chart is that the daily stochastic and daily 14-period RSI has approached oversold territory. Hence, the index holding above the support area of 23,600-23,500 will lead to a pullback towards the 50-day EMA placed around 24,150,” said Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle on the daily chart, with a lower high and a lower low. Bajaj Broking Research expects the index to remain within its broader consolidation range unless a decisive breakout or breakdown occurs.

In the near term, Bank Nifty is expected to trade between 57,000 and 58,000. A close below 57,000 could strengthen selling pressure and take the index towards the 56,500-56,200 support zone.

“Within the consolidation, the index is facing resistance around 58,000 levels. Sustaining above 58,000 will open the way towards 58,500-58,700 levels. Failure to sustain above 58,000 will signal an extension of range-bound trade in the 57,000-58,000 zone in the coming sessions,” added Pabitro Mukherjee.

  • Indian Stocks Open Lower as Rising Oil and Middle East Tensions Weigh on Sentiment

Indian Stocks Open Lower as Rising Oil and Middle East Tensions Weigh on Sentiment

Indian equity markets opened lower on Friday, dragged by rising crude oil prices and escalating Middle East tensions that dampened investor sentiment. The Nifty 50 index started the session 97.1 points, or 0.39%, lower at 24,538.90, while the Bank Nifty declined 181.65 points, or 0.31%, to open at 57,882. The Sensex opened 438.68 points below its previous close of 78,954.76.

Broader market performance was mixed. The Nifty Midcap 100 index edged down 0.4%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index gained 0.5%.

In the currency market, the rupee opened at Rs 95.28 per US dollar on Friday, compared with the previous session’s close of Rs 95.22.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in Indian equities on August 6, offloading shares worth Rs 28.58 crore. Conversely, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers, adding Rs 3,488.43 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a small candle on the daily chart, and the non-directional intraday activity indicates indecision among traders.

“For day traders, 79,000 would act as an immediate breakout level. Above this, the market could move up to 79,300-79,500. On the flip side, below 78,600, we could see intraday price corrections down to 78,200-78,000. The intraday market texture is non-directional; hence, level-based trading would be the ideal strategy for day traders,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 could witness profit booking after the recent rally, but the larger trajectory remains positive as long as key support levels hold.

“The 24,400-24,500 is the immediate support zone, where buying interest is expected to emerge on declines. On the upside, 24,700-24,800 remains the key resistance range. A decisive move above this zone could signal a continuation of the ongoing uptrend and pave the way for fresh highs. As long as Nifty holds above the 24,400 support zone, the preferred strategy remains buy on dips,” said Gaurav Udani, founder of Thincredblu Securities.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

The Bank Nifty is expected to remain steady, with the underlying technical structure still favorable as the index continues to trade above its key support zones.

“The 58,200-58,300 band stands out as the immediate resistance area; a decisive move beyond this level would strengthen buying interest and open the path toward 58,500-58,600. On the downside, the 57,800-57,700 zone serves as the first line of support, with a breakdown below this level exposing the index to a deeper pullback toward 57,400-57,300,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Higher: Nifty 50 Edges Up, Sensex Gains Over 200 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Higher: Nifty 50 Edges Up, Sensex Gains Over 200 Points

The Indian stock market opened on a positive note Thursday, tracking mixed global cues. The benchmark Nifty 50 index opened 16.35 points, or 0.07%, higher at 24,641, while the Bank Nifty climbed 75.05 points, or 0.13%, to start at 57,815. The Sensex opened 201.43 points above the previous close of 78,581, reaching 78,782.43.

Among broader indices, the Nifty midcap index rose 0.18%, while the smallcap index gained 0.76%. The Indian rupee opened flat at Rs. 95.13 per dollar against the previous close of Rs. 95.13.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers on August 5, offloading shares worth Rs. 943.42 crore. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained net buyers, investing Rs. 2,883.17 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex witnessed range-bound activity. Short-term support is placed at 78,200–78,000, while 78,900–79,000 remains the crucial resistance area for the bulls. According to Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, “We believe that, as long as the market is trading between these ranges, a range-bound texture is likely to continue. On the higher side, a breakout above 79,000 could push the market towards 79,300–79,500. On the flip side, a dismissal of 78,000 could push the market towards 77,500.”

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 formed a bullish hammer-like candle on the daily chart, indicating buying interest at lower levels. Bajaj Broking Research stated, “We expect the index to extend the last two sessions’ consolidation and form a base at higher levels. The overall structure is positive; we believe the current breather should be used to accumulate quality stocks in a staggered manner.” The brokerage expects the benchmark index to gradually move towards the 25,000–25,200 zone over the coming weeks. Immediate support is placed in the 24,400–24,500 range. As long as the Nifty remains above this zone, analysts expect a pullback towards 24,720 and 24,800 in the near term. Stronger short-term support is now seen around 24,200–24,000, where key Fibonacci retracement levels coincide with the 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages (EMAs).

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty traded within a narrow range during Wednesday’s session and formed an inside-bar candle, reflecting indecision after recent profit booking. Bajaj Broking noted, “The index continues to consolidate within the broader 56,500–58,700 range that has been in place over the past seven weeks. A decisive breakout above 58,700 would signal a resumption of the uptrend, opening the door towards 59,300 and 60,000 in the coming sessions. Until then, the index is likely to remain range-bound with a stock-specific bias.” According to the brokerage, immediate support for Bank Nifty is near 57,400, followed by the 57,000–56,800 zone. On the upside, resistance is seen around 58,000–58,100, while a sustained move above the 58,500–58,700 range could strengthen bullish momentum.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 70 Points, Sensex Gains 395 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 70 Points, Sensex Gains 395 Points

The Indian stock markets opened on a mixed note on Tuesday, following a late sharp rise in the previous session triggered by the launch of the new Closing Auction Session (CAS) framework. The Nifty 50 index opened 70.4 points or 0.28% lower at 24,703.90, while the Bank Nifty started 179 points below the previous close of 58,068.95. In contrast, the Sensex opened higher by approximately 395 points, reaching 79,132.97.

The Indian rupee opened flat at Rs. 95.36 per dollar against Monday’s close of Rs. 95.34. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in Indian equities on August 3, purchasing shares worth Rs. 922.26 crore. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) also extended their buying activity, investing Rs. 1,571.18 crore during the same period.

The broader market remained firm, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices each gaining 1.2%.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex continues to maintain a positive structure, with the 77,800–77,600 range acting as the immediate support zone. According to Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking, “As long as it holds above this range, the overall trend is expected to remain bullish. On the upside, 78,300–78,500 remains the immediate resistance zone, and a sustained breakout above these levels could trigger the next leg of the rally towards 78,800–79,000.”

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 has strengthened its technical structure after breaking out of a three-month consolidation range. The index formed a strong bullish candle on the daily chart while closing above the upper boundary of its recent consolidation range. Analysts believe the breakout above the triangular consolidation pattern suggests the index could extend its rally towards the 25,000–25,200 zone over the coming sessions. Bajaj Broking Research stated, “We believe bias remains positive and dips, if any, in the coming sessions should be used as a buying opportunity. On the downside, immediate support is placed at 24,500–24,400 levels, while key short-term support is placed at the 24,200 levels, being the confluence of the key retracement of the current up move and 20-day EMA.”

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty also pushed higher, extending its upward momentum and forming a strong bullish candle on the daily chart, closing above the psychologically important 58,000 level. Analysts noted that if there is a decisive breakout over the upper end of the 58,500–58,700 band, it may spark fresh buying interest and open the door for a move toward 59,300 and then 60,000. However, if the index cannot hold above 58,700, then Bank Nifty may keep consolidating inside the 57,000–58,700 area until a clearer breakout happens. On the downside, the 56,500–56,000 zone remains a crucial support area, reinforced by the confluence of the lower band of the six-week trading range, an ascending trendline, and the 52-week EMA, making it a strong demand zone. As long as the index holds above this support cluster, the broader outlook is expected to remain constructive.
