Indian Stock Market Opens Lower: Nifty 50 Drops 0.48%, Sensex Falls 361 Points

The Indian stock market opened lower amid mixed global trends. The Nifty 50 was down 113.05 points or 0.48% at the open to 23,522.05, while Bank Nifty started 278.7 points below the prior close. Sensex fell 361.36 points to 75,216.22.

The broader market outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices ending marginally higher. The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at Rs. 94.87 per dollar on Wednesday against Tuesday’s close of Rs. 94.82.

Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers on Tuesday, offloading Rs. 123 crore of Indian equities, while domestic institutional investors bought a net Rs. 1,350 crore, according to NSE data.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a bearish candle on the daily chart and is holding a lower top formation, which is largely negative.

“For day traders, 75,800 would act as an immediate resistance zone. Below this, a weak formation is likely to continue. On the downside, the market could retest the levels of 75,200-75,000. On the flip side, if the index closes above 75,800, the pullback could extend till 76,000-76,300,” said Shrikant Chouhan, Head, Equity Research, Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 formed its second consecutive bearish candle on the daily chart, indicating that the ongoing corrective trend remains intact. The Nifty 50 has now moved close to its July 2026 low of around 23,606, making the current support zone particularly important for traders and investors.

The index has approached a crucial support area between 23,600 and 23,500. A failure to hold above this range could result in a further decline towards 23,300 in the coming weeks. On the upside, any recovery attempt may face significant resistance around the 24,000-24,050 zone.

“Pullback attempts from the current oversold territory will face stiff resistance around 24,000-24,050 levels, being the recent breakdown area and 20-day EMA. The support area is likely to reverse its role and act as resistance in the short term,” said Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle with a lower high and lower low, which suggests that the corrective decline in the banking index is continuing. The index closed below the immediate support level of 57,000, which has now become an important level to watch. If Bank Nifty remains below 57,000, the decline could extend towards the 56,500-56,200 range. This zone is considered an important short-term support area as it represents the confluence of the 52-week EMA and the lower band of the index’s nine-week trading range.

“Immediate bias in the index continues to remain down, and only a formation of higher highs and higher lows on a sustained basis in the daily chart will signal a pause in the downtrend. A move above 57,000 will lead to consolidation in the range of 57,000-58,000,” said Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking.

  • Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 70 Points, Sensex Gains 395 Points

Indian Stock Market Opens Mixed: Nifty Dips 70 Points, Sensex Gains 395 Points

The Indian stock markets opened on a mixed note on Tuesday, following a late sharp rise in the previous session triggered by the launch of the new Closing Auction Session (CAS) framework. The Nifty 50 index opened 70.4 points or 0.28% lower at 24,703.90, while the Bank Nifty started 179 points below the previous close of 58,068.95. In contrast, the Sensex opened higher by approximately 395 points, reaching 79,132.97.

The Indian rupee opened flat at Rs. 95.36 per dollar against Monday’s close of Rs. 95.34. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in Indian equities on August 3, purchasing shares worth Rs. 922.26 crore. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) also extended their buying activity, investing Rs. 1,571.18 crore during the same period.

The broader market remained firm, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices each gaining 1.2%.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex continues to maintain a positive structure, with the 77,800–77,600 range acting as the immediate support zone. According to Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking, “As long as it holds above this range, the overall trend is expected to remain bullish. On the upside, 78,300–78,500 remains the immediate resistance zone, and a sustained breakout above these levels could trigger the next leg of the rally towards 78,800–79,000.”

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 has strengthened its technical structure after breaking out of a three-month consolidation range. The index formed a strong bullish candle on the daily chart while closing above the upper boundary of its recent consolidation range. Analysts believe the breakout above the triangular consolidation pattern suggests the index could extend its rally towards the 25,000–25,200 zone over the coming sessions. Bajaj Broking Research stated, “We believe bias remains positive and dips, if any, in the coming sessions should be used as a buying opportunity. On the downside, immediate support is placed at 24,500–24,400 levels, while key short-term support is placed at the 24,200 levels, being the confluence of the key retracement of the current up move and 20-day EMA.”

    Bank Nifty Outlook

Bank Nifty also pushed higher, extending its upward momentum and forming a strong bullish candle on the daily chart, closing above the psychologically important 58,000 level. Analysts noted that if there is a decisive breakout over the upper end of the 58,500–58,700 band, it may spark fresh buying interest and open the door for a move toward 59,300 and then 60,000. However, if the index cannot hold above 58,700, then Bank Nifty may keep consolidating inside the 57,000–58,700 area until a clearer breakout happens. On the downside, the 56,500–56,000 zone remains a crucial support area, reinforced by the confluence of the lower band of the six-week trading range, an ascending trendline, and the 52-week EMA, making it a strong demand zone. As long as the index holds above this support cluster, the broader outlook is expected to remain constructive.

  • Indian Stock Market Ends Mixed: Sensex Rises 274 Points, Nifty Holds Above 24,300, Bank Nifty Slips

Indian Stock Market Ends Mixed: Sensex Rises 274 Points, Nifty Holds Above 24,300, Bank Nifty Slips

The Indian stock market ended on a mixed note on Thursday, following a positive session the previous day. Despite weak global cues, the benchmark indices showed resilience, with the Sensex rising 273.55 points (0.35%) to close at 77,928.15, and the Nifty 50 gaining 0.27% to finish above the 24,300 mark at 24,317.15. However, the Bank Nifty declined by 58.40 points (0.10%) to settle at 57,147.50, while the India VIX rose by 1.23%.

Market sentiment was influenced by the US Federal Reserve’s decision to hold interest rates at 3.50%-3.75%, which led to cautious trading. Additionally, rising oil prices—driven by US airstrikes against Iran and the ongoing Middle East tensions—added to investor uncertainty. Brent crude futures gained 1.5% to $92.10 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate futures advanced 0.9% to $85.23 per barrel.

    Top Gainers and Losers

Selective buying was observed in automobile, mining, and manufacturing stocks. Mahindra & Mahindra emerged as the top gainer, rising 2.26%, followed by Maruti Suzuki, Coal India, Eicher Motors, and TVS Motor. On the downside, Adani Ports led the losses, falling 3.38%, while HDFC Life, Shriram Finance, Jio Financial Services, and SBI Life Insurance also traded lower as investors booked profits in financial and insurance stocks.

    Key Market Drivers

The benchmarks rose on buying in select heavyweights, but mid- and small-cap segments witnessed profit booking after the Fed’s rate decision. Expectations are growing that the central bank may raise rates in September due to inflation risks from the Middle East conflict. Three out of 12 Fed policymakers voted in favor of a rate hike on July 29. The rupee closed at 95.68 per US dollar, little changed from the previous session’s 95.6475.

Overall, the Indian stock market ended on a mixed note, with gains in auto and mining stocks supporting the indices, while persistent global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions kept investor sentiment cautious.

  • Indian Stock Market Update: Sensex Rises 325 Points, Nifty Settles at 24,160 as IT Stocks Rally

Indian Stock Market Update: Sensex Rises 325 Points, Nifty Settles at 24,160 as IT Stocks Rally

Indian equity markets ended the July 16 session on a positive note, driven by a rally in IT stocks and favorable global cues. However, gains were trimmed in the afternoon after news of Iran’s renewed blockade of the Strait of Hormuz rattled investor sentiment. The BSE Sensex closed at approximately 77,380, up 325 points (0.42%), while the NSE Nifty 50 settled near 24,160, gaining 82 points (0.34%).

    Key Market Drivers

Markets opened strongly following lower-than-expected US inflation data and strong quarterly results from US banks, which boosted Wall Street and Asian markets. The Nifty IT sector was the best performer, surging 1.98% in morning trade, supported by TCS’s Q1 FY27 results. Broader indices also saw gains, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 rising 0.45% each in the first half.

However, the positive momentum reversed in the afternoon after reports that Iran had shut down the Strait of Hormuz, pushing crude oil prices higher for the fourth consecutive day. This led to profit booking, with the Nifty Metal Index falling 1.11% and IT stocks giving back some gains.

    Top Gainers and Losers

Top Gainers: IT stocks led the rally, including Infosys, TCS, and HCL Technologies. Other notable gainers included Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.

Top Losers: Metal stocks faced selling pressure, with Hindalco and Tata Steel among the laggards. Energy stocks also declined due to rising oil prices.

    Market Outlook

With Sensex weekly options expiring on Thursday and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, markets are expected to remain cautious. Key triggers for the rest of the week include Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s testimony, Q1 FY27 results, and developments in the Iran-Hormuz situation.

  • Indian Stock Market Outlook: Nifty 50 Targets 24,500, Sensex Holds Key Support at 76,700

Indian Stock Market Outlook: Nifty 50 Targets 24,500, Sensex Holds Key Support at 76,700

Indian stock markets are expected to open on a muted note Monday amid mixed global cues. GIFT Nifty is trading at 24,332.5, indicating a flat start with a discount of 22.5 points from the previous Nifty futures close.

On Friday, the Sensex rose 261.79 points (0.34%) to settle at 77,763.91, while the Nifty 50 advanced 95.15 points (0.39%) to finish at 24,270.85. Broader indices underperformed, with the Nifty midcap index ending marginally lower and the smallcap index flat.

The Indian rupee opened flat at Rs. 95.23 per dollar on Monday against Friday’s close of Rs. 95.22. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on July 3, purchasing shares worth Rs. 1,355.33 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers to the tune of Rs. 1,953.89 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex rose around 1% last week, forming a bullish candle on weekly charts with a higher bottom formation—a largely positive sign. “The short-term market texture is positive, but the ideal strategy for traders would be to buy on dips and sell on rallies. On the downside, 77,300 and 76,700 are key support zones, while 78,400-79,000 are key resistance areas. Below 76,700, sentiment could change, potentially retesting 76,100-75,900,” said Amol Athawale, VP Technical Research, Kotak Securities.

    Nifty 50 Outlook

Nifty 50 has strengthened its short-term trend after closing above last month’s high. The index advanced for three consecutive sessions and finished above the critical 24,261 level. Although Friday’s trading formed a bearish candle as the market gave up some gains, the broader short-term trend remains positive.

Bajaj Broking Research noted that “the index during the current week generated a bullish crossover of the 20- and 50-day EMA, highlighting continuation of positive momentum. In the coming session, Friday’s gap area will act as immediate support; holding above that signals an extension of the up move toward 24,380 and 24,500.” The brokerage expects Nifty to gradually move toward the 24,500-24,600 zone in the near term. A decisive break above 24,600 could target 24,800. Immediate support is near 24,050, with stronger support between 23,800 and 23,900.

    Bank Nifty Outlook

On Friday, Bank Nifty declined 93.15 points (0.16%) to close at 57,938.50, forming a small bearish candle. For the week, the index ended with a loss of 0.41% and formed a small bearish candle on the weekly timeframe with a long lower shadow, highlighting indecisiveness.

Bajaj Broking Research said, “A move above last week’s high of 58,400 will open further upside toward 59,200 and 60,000 in the coming weeks, being the 138.2% and 150% external retracement of the previous decline from 57,456 to 52,783. Failure to move above last week’s high is likely to keep the index consolidating within the 57,000-58,400 range.” The brokerage identified the 57,000-56,800 region as key support for Bank Nifty, adding that the broader outlook for banking stocks remains positive and any short-term consolidation could offer accumulation opportunities.

  • Indian Stock Market Holds Steady: Nifty 50 at 24,000 Support, Sensex Targets 76,800 Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty

Indian Stock Market Holds Steady: Nifty 50 at 24,000 Support, Sensex Targets 76,800 Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty

The Indian stock markets are set to open on a flat note following mixed global signals, with the Middle East uncertainty and US-Iran peace talks keeping investors cautious. GIFT Nifty is trading at 23,994, indicating a slight positive start with a premium of around 20 points from its previous Nifty futures close.

On Monday, the Sensex declined 372.10 points (0.48%) to close at 76,728.37, while the Nifty 50 fell 109.75 points (0.46%) to settle at 23,946.25. The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at Rs. 94.57 per dollar versus the previous close of Rs. 94.53.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs. 1,350.10 crore on June 29, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) emerged as net buyers with Rs. 2,801.45 crore.

    Sensex Outlook

Technically, the Sensex formed a bearish candle on the daily charts, indicating further weakness from current levels. According to Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, “76,800 would act as an immediate reference point for day traders. Below this level, the market could retest the levels of 76,200-76,000. On the flip side, above 76,800, the rally could continue towards 77,300-77,500. The intraday market texture is non-directional. Hence, level-based trading would be the ideal strategy for day traders.”

    Nifty 50 Outlook

The Nifty 50 continued to consolidate around the psychologically important 24,000 mark after forming a small bearish candle with a lower high and lower low on the daily chart, indicating a corrective bias in the short term.

Bajaj Broking Research noted, “Immediate resistance remains in the 24,100-24,150 zone, which coincides with Monday’s intraday high. On the downside, immediate support is placed between 23,900 and 23,800. Analysts also identify the 23,500-23,600 region as a crucial short-term support area, while the next major resistance is near the 24,600.”

The brokerage added, “We believe overall bias is positive and the current breather should be used as a buying opportunity as we expect Nifty to gradually head towards the 24,500-24,600 levels in the coming weeks.”

    Bank Nifty Outlook

On Monday, Bank Nifty declined 449.70 points (0.77%) to close at 57,727.35, forming a small bearish candle with a lower high and lower low, signaling consolidation. Bajaj Broking stated, “Going ahead, bias remains positive, and dips towards the support area of 57,000 should be used as a buying opportunity for a gradually upward move towards 59,200 levels in the coming sessions, being the 138.2% external retracement of the previous decline 57,456-52,783.”

The brokerage noted that the banking index continues to find strong support around the 57,000 level. As long as this support holds, the overall outlook is expected to remain positive.
