Microsoft is set to launch its innovative Surface Mouse, which replaces traditional mechanical switches with capacitive sensors and built-in motors to deliver haptic feedback. Priced at $80, the mouse targets premium productivity users while relying on standard AAA batteries instead of rechargeable cells.
The device uses capacitive sensors to detect finger pressure and touch, eliminating the need for conventional mechanical switches. Built-in motors provide force feedback through the palm, creating vibrations that respond to interactions in supported applications. Users can adjust the haptic intensity to suit their preferences.
Microsoft plans to expand app support over time, with haptic compatibility for Adobe’s Creative Suite in development, though the feature is currently only available in beta. Haptic feedback technology also appears in newer Surface Laptop and Surface Pro trackpads, extending Microsoft’s tactile feedback approach across devices.
The Surface Mouse is scheduled for release on October 13, alongside updated Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models.
