  • Adani Power vs Tata Power: A Comprehensive Comparison of Stock Price, Valuation, Financials, and Growth

Adani Power vs Tata Power: A Comprehensive Comparison of Stock Price, Valuation, Financials, and Growth

Adani Power and Tata Power offer different exposure to India’s evolving electricity market. Adani Power focuses more on power generation, while Tata Power operates across generation, transmission, distribution, renewables, solar manufacturing, and electric mobility.

Overview: Adani Power and Tata Power provide exposure to the country’s growing electricity requirements, but their operating models differ. Adani Power is primarily focused on electricity generation, while Tata Power has a broader presence across generation, transmission, distribution, renewables, solar manufacturing, storage, and electric mobility. Tata Power reported Rs. 18,898 crore revenue and Rs. 1,401 crore PAT in Q1 FY27. Adani Power reported Rs. 19,322 crore revenue and Rs. 4,867 crore PAT during the same quarter.

Adani Power and Tata Power are two major names in India’s electricity sector. Both companies are expanding to meet rising energy demand. However, their business models differ. Adani Power remains heavily focused on power generation, while Tata Power operates across generation, transmission, distribution, and renewables. Their latest financial results also show different growth patterns. Investors should therefore examine several metrics before comparing these stocks.

Adani Power vs Tata Power: Stock Price

Stock prices can change significantly during a trading session. Recent market data placed Adani Power around Rs. 196 – Rs. 203. Its 52-week range was roughly Rs. 128 – Rs. 254. Tata Power traded around Rs. 362 – Rs. 367, with a 52-week range near Rs. 343 – Rs. 465.

The share price alone does not show whether a stock is expensive. Investors usually compare market value with earnings, assets, and growth. Adani Power’s market capitalization was around Rs. 3.8 lakh crore. Tata Power’s market value was around Rs. 1.16 lakh crore. These figures also show why direct price comparisons can be misleading.

    Valuation: P/E and Other Metrics

Valuation provides another way to compare the companies. Recent market data showed Adani Power trading at about 26.5 times earnings. Tata Power’s P/E stood around 30 times. Price-to-book ratios also differed. Adani Power was around 6.2 times book value. Tata Power was near 3 times, based on recent market data.

These ratios can change with earnings and share prices. Treat them as snapshots rather than permanent figures. Investors should also consider debt, cash flows, capital expenditure, and future earnings. A single valuation multiple rarely captures the complete picture.

    Financial Performance: Adani Power

Adani Power reported strong operating growth during Q1 FY27. Reported revenue reached Rs. 19,322 crore during the quarter. Reported EBITDA increased 36% year-over-year to Rs. 8,369 crore. Reported profit after tax rose 47.2% to Rs. 4,867 crore. Power sales increased 16.9% to 28.8 billion units. Installed capacity reached 18,330 MW during the quarter.

The company also reported higher power demand and improved tariff realization. However, fuel costs increased by more than 30% year over year. Adani Power also continues to invest in capacity expansion. Its stated target is to expand its portfolio toward 45 GW.

    Financial Performance: Tata Power

Tata Power reported revenue of Rs. 18,898 crore in Q1 FY27. EBITDA reached Rs. 4,249 crore, up 8% year over year. Profit after tax increased 11% to Rs. 1,401 crore. Its renewable business recorded stronger performance during the quarter. Renewable PAT increased 15% year over year to Rs. 612 crore. Solar cell and module manufacturing PAT reached Rs. 371 crore.

Tata Power also spent Rs. 5,375 crore on capital expenditure during the quarter. The company is investing across renewables, storage, transmission, and distribution. Its strategy therefore extends beyond conventional electricity generation.

    Growth Drivers and Key Risks

Both companies can benefit from India’s rising electricity demand. India’s peak power demand reached 270.8 GW during May 2026. Energy consumption also increased 8.4% year-over-year during Q1 FY27.

Adani Power’s growth is closely linked with generation capacity and power demand. Higher utilization and stronger tariffs can support earnings. Fuel prices, financing costs, regulations, and project execution remain important risks.

Tata Power has broader exposure across the electricity value chain. Its renewable expansion, solar manufacturing, rooftop business, and energy storage projects provide additional growth avenues. However, large capital investments can increase funding requirements. Renewable projects also depend on execution, financing, policy, and equipment availability.

Adani Power vs Tata Power: What Investors Should Compare

The two stocks represent different approaches to India’s evolving power market. Adani Power is more concentrated in generation. Tata Power has a more diversified electricity business. Recent results show stronger earnings growth at Adani Power. Meanwhile, Tata Power continues expanding its renewable and clean-energy operations.

Investors should compare valuation, earnings growth, debt, cash flow, capital expenditure, and business mix. They should also consider their own investment horizon and risk tolerance. Stock prices and valuations can change quickly. Therefore, investors should verify the latest financial results before making decisions.

  • MCX Gold Slips 0.27% to Rs 1,48,800 Amid US-Iran Tensions and Rising Oil Prices

MCX Gold Slips 0.27% to Rs 1,48,800 Amid US-Iran Tensions and Rising Oil Prices

Gold prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) declined on September 29 as geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz continued to push energy costs higher, increasing pressure on the Federal Reserve to maintain elevated interest rates.

October gold futures fell 0.27% to Rs 1,48,500 per 10 grams, while September silver futures dropped 0.46% to Rs 2,46,130. In the international market, Brent crude futures rose 1.80% to USD 107.2 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained 1.75% to USD 94.22 per barrel.

    Domestic Gold Prices

In India, 24K gold fell by Rs 137 to Rs 1,48,800 per 10 grams, and 22K gold declined by Rs 125 to Rs 1,36,400. City-wise, Mumbai and Kolkata reported prices of Rs 1,48,800, Delhi at Rs 1,48,950, and Chennai at Rs 1,49,080.

    US Gold Prices

In the United States, gold prices edged higher on Tuesday but remained near their lowest level in over seven weeks amid concerns that the Fed could keep rates higher for longer. Spot gold rose 0.4% to USD 4,130.58 per ounce, while US gold futures fell 0.2% to USD 4,162.20. Spot silver declined 0.9% to USD 60.42, platinum slipped 1.3% to USD 1,697.71, and palladium lost 0.8% to USD 1,205.27.

    Key Levels to Watch

Christopher Tahir, senior market strategist at Exness, noted: “Geopolitical developments will remain crucial for gold, as continued tensions could keep energy prices and yields elevated, while meaningful progress toward de-escalation could ease pressure. Persistent price pressures combined with resilient activity would reinforce expectations that central banks need to remain restrictive, keeping yields elevated and leaving gold vulnerable to further losses.”

On the daily chart, XAU/USD trades at USD 4,130, holding below the 20-day, 50-day, and 100-day simple moving averages clustered between roughly USD 4,290 and USD 4,330, which keeps the near-term bias bearish. The Relative Strength Index (14) near 36 suggests weak momentum but not outright oversold conditions, hinting that bears retain control.

Immediate support is seen at the rising trend-line base near USD 3,990, where dip-buying interest could emerge if the current pullback extends. On the upside, the first resistance band is defined by the 100-day SMA at USD 4,292, followed closely by the 50-day SMA at USD 4,321 and the 20-day SMA at USD 4,325, forming a dense supply zone that gold would need to reclaim to ease bearish pressure.

  • 7 Key Assets for Building Long-Term Wealth

7 Key Assets for Building Long-Term Wealth

Building wealth is a long-term endeavor that requires a strategic approach to investing. By diversifying across different asset classes, you can spread risk and increase your potential for returns. Here are seven assets that can help you build wealth over time.

    1. Stocks

Stocks offer long-term growth potential by giving investors exposure to company performance, market movements, and economic conditions. However, they come with varying levels of risk depending on the company and market trends.

    2. Bonds

Bonds provide income through regular interest payments and can help diversify a portfolio. Their returns and risk depend on the issuer and prevailing market conditions, making them a more stable option compared to stocks.

    3. Gold

Gold is a tangible asset that often moves differently from financial assets, offering a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Its price can fluctuate based on global economic factors, but it remains a popular diversification tool.

    4. Real Estate

Investing in physical property can generate rental income and appreciate in value over time. However, it requires significant capital and ongoing maintenance costs, making it less accessible for some investors.

    5. REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts)

REITs allow you to invest in real estate without directly buying properties. They offer accessibility and potential income through distributions, making real estate investment more liquid and manageable.

    6. Mutual Funds

Mutual funds pool money from multiple investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of securities. They are professionally managed, making them a convenient way for individuals to achieve diversification without picking individual stocks or bonds.

    7. Yourself

Investing in your own education, skills, and professional development can significantly improve your earning potential. This personal investment supports stronger long-term financial decision-making and career growth.

    Diversification and Risk Management

Combining different asset classes spreads exposure across investments, reducing dependence on any single asset’s performance. Your asset choices should align with your personal goals, risk tolerance, and investment time horizon rather than following popular trends.

By carefully selecting a mix of these assets, you can build a robust portfolio that works toward your financial future.

  • Indian Mobile Retailers Plan ‘No UPI Day’ on October 2 to Protest Proposed MDR Fees

Indian Mobile Retailers Plan ‘No UPI Day’ on October 2 to Protest Proposed MDR Fees

Mobile phone retailers across India are planning to observe October 2 as ‘No UPI Day’ in protest against the proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on certain UPI merchant payments. The campaign, organized by the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), will see participating retailers temporarily halt acceptance of UPI payments and symbolically cover their QR codes with black cloth.

    Why Are Mobile Retailers Protesting?

AIMRA states that the proposed MDR could significantly increase the financial burden on mobile retailers, especially those operating on thin margins. Under the new framework, a 0.4% MDR will apply to eligible person-to-merchant UPI transactions above Rs. 2,000, starting October 15, 2026. The charge is merchant-side only and will not be directly passed to consumers.

The association explains that a small retailer processing between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh in UPI payments monthly could face additional costs of Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 12,000 per month. AIMRA estimates the overall burden on small mobile retailers across India could reach about Rs. 40 crore per month, or nearly Rs. 500 crore annually.

AIMRA Vice President and Delhi NCR President Tarvinder Singh emphasized that the protest is not against UPI or digital payments but against the additional financial strain on merchants.

What Will Happen on October 2?

Retailers participating in the protest are expected to refrain from accepting UPI payments for the day and may physically cover their UPI QR codes with black cloth. However, this is a voluntary action by individual mobile retailers and does not mean UPI services will stop nationwide. Other businesses will continue to accept UPI as usual.

Customers planning to purchase smartphones, accessories, or other products from physical mobile stores on October 2 are advised to carry cash or card payments as alternatives.

    What Changes from October 15?

The October 2 protest precedes the implementation of the new MDR framework on October 15. Under the framework:

    • Eligible person-to-merchant UPI transactions above Rs. 2,000 will attract a 0.4% MDR.
    • Transactions up to Rs. 2,000 and person-to-person transfers remain exempt.
    • Small merchants receiving up to Rs. 1 lakh per month through UPI QR payments are eligible for mandatory zero MDR.

The proposed MDR is a merchant-side charge, so customers will not see any direct impact. The protest is therefore focused on retailers’ concerns about the cost of accepting eligible UPI payments, not a call for a nationwide suspension of UPI.

  • Gold Prices Tumble Nearly 4% Amid Strong Dollar and Climbing US Yields

Gold Prices Tumble Nearly 4% Amid Strong Dollar and Climbing US Yields

Gold Prices Tumble Nearly 4% Amid Strong Dollar and Climbing US Yields

Spot gold prices fell sharply on Monday, extending their decline to a seven-week low as higher crude oil prices fueled inflation concerns. The metal also came under pressure from a stronger US dollar and rising Treasury yields.

According to Reuters data reported by The Times of India, spot gold fell by 3.8% to USD 4,121.6 per ounce, touching its lowest level since August 5. US gold futures also declined 3.9% to USD 4,153.7.

    Oil Prices Raise Inflation Concerns

A sharp rise in crude oil prices has changed expectations around US monetary policy. Higher energy costs can add to inflation pressures and make it harder for the Federal Reserve to ease policy. Oil prices rose after developments surrounding the conflict involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

Jim Wyckoff, a market analyst at American Gold Exchange, said, “Sharply higher crude prices could point to more persistent inflation and tighter Federal Reserve policy. The US dollar also strengthened, making gold more expensive for buyers holding other currencies.”

The dollar index rose to a two-month high on Tuesday and was heading for its strongest monthly performance since June. A stronger dollar typically weighs on dollar-denominated commodities because it raises their effective cost for international buyers.

    Market Outlook

Higher US Treasury yields added another layer of pressure on gold. Rising yields increase the opportunity cost of holding assets such as gold, which does not generate regular interest income. US Treasury yields have climbed as markets reassess the outlook for Federal Reserve policy. Traders are increasingly pricing in another rate increase later this year, with expectations also shaped by upcoming US inflation and employment data.

The combination of a strong dollar, rising yields, and inflation concerns suggests continued headwinds for gold prices in the near term.

  • India’s Largest Small-Cap Funds: How Many Stocks Do They Hold?

India’s Largest Small-Cap Funds: How Many Stocks Do They Hold?

    Introduction

India’s small-cap mutual fund space features a diverse range of portfolio strategies. A recent analysis of the seven largest small-cap funds by assets under management (AUM) reveals significant variation in the number of individual stocks held. Below is a breakdown of each fund’s stock count and AUM.

    Fund-by-Fund Breakdown

    Bandhan Small Cap Fund

Holds the highest stock count among the seven funds at 258 stocks, with an AUM of ₹34,176 crore. Its portfolio breadth slightly exceeds that of Nippon India Small Cap.

    Nippon India Small Cap Fund

With 254 stocks and an AUM of ₹82,580 crore, this fund is the largest by AUM and holds the second-highest number of stocks, indicating a diversified approach.

    Axis Small Cap Fund

Holds 128 stocks with an AUM of ₹31,448 crore. Its stock count is moderate compared to peers.

    Quant Small Cap Fund

Manages 104 stocks and ₹35,557 crore in AUM, placing it in the middle of the range.

    HDFC Small Cap Fund

Holds 84 stocks with an AUM of ₹41,891 crore, showing a more concentrated portfolio relative to its AUM.

    DSP Small Cap Fund

Holds 82 stocks and manages ₹21,659 crore in AUM, similar in stock count to HDFC but with lower AUM.

    SBI Small Cap Fund

Holds the fewest stocks at 68, with an AUM of ₹42,631 crore. This highlights that a lower stock count does not necessarily mean lower AUM.

    Key Takeaways

The data shows that small-cap funds vary widely in their portfolio construction. Bandhan and Nippon India hold over 250 stocks each, while SBI and DSP hold fewer than 100. AUM also varies, with Nippon India leading at over ₹82,000 crore. Investors should consider both stock count and AUM when evaluating fund diversification.

FTSE 100 Opens Higher as Oil Prices Surge on Rejected Iran Truce; Aldi Plans £900M Expansion

The FTSE 100 opened 27.61 points higher at 10,722.86 on Monday, driven by a rise in oil prices after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal for a seven-day truce that could have reopened the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures climbed 2.48% to $106.9 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) advanced 2.09% to $94.34 per barrel.

Aldi announced plans to invest £900 million in opening new stores next year. The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain reported record sales growth of 5% to £19 billion in 2025, driven by a £340 million investment in price cuts on products such as butter, meat, and frozen fish. Chief Executive Giles Hurley said, “The cost of food remains one of the biggest pressures on households across the country. We’re working hard to make good food more affordable for every family.”

    Chrysalis Sells Stake in Klarna

Chrysalis sold its remaining stake in buy now, pay later firm Klarna for £34 million after a stock decline over the past year. The investment trust said the exit price exceeded its recent valuation of the holdings, reversing some earlier drawdowns. Chrysalis will return £25 million to shareholders through a buyback program and retain £9 million as a prudent operating capital buffer for potential follow-on investments.

    Entain Predicts Earnings Decline

Entain warned that its global earnings will suffer due to Brazil’s newly announced ban on online sports betting. The company said the ban pushes its full-year earnings to the lower end of its £910 million-to-£960 million guidance. • PennyGuard: How Its Features Support Everyday Money Decisions

PennyGuard: How Its Features Support Everyday Money Decisions

PennyGuard is a personal finance tool designed to bring the details of your everyday spending into one view. Rather than focusing only on saving, it helps you understand what is happening with each charge, identify recurring expenses, and uncover benefits linked to the cards you already use.

    What PennyGuard Does

PennyGuard connects to your financial data through a few different paths. It works with bank connections through Plaid, offers a card connection option, and supports email connections from Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo. The level of bank support depends on Plaid coverage.

Once connected, the platform uses that information to identify options tied to individual transactions. The outputs fall into three main categories:

    • Information: explaining what a charge is, reminding you of a renewal, or showing a card perk.
    • Requests: actions you confirm, such as a cancellation or refund request.
    • Fulfilled outcomes: completed results, such as a confirmed cancellation or a refund that has landed in your account.

Keeping these categories separate helps you know exactly what a feature is doing and what still needs to happen.

Card Benefits for Purchases You Plan to Keep

Not every transaction needs to be reduced or eliminated. Some charges reflect purchases you are happy with, and your main interest is whether your card offers a benefit for them.

PennyGuard’s planned transaction-focused main view is meant to surface cashback or perks associated with your card, along with possible ways to pay less. The goal is to help you notice a benefit you might otherwise miss.

There is an important difference between seeing a benefit and receiving it. Cashback is paid by the bank or card network under its own terms, so eligibility and fulfillment matter after discovery.

When You Need More Context About a Charge

A charge can look unfamiliar without being something you want to stop. In those cases, the text AI assistant is designed to answer questions using the same connected information that powers transaction analysis.

You could ask what a charge is, which subscriptions are worth reviewing, or what perk may apply to a specific transaction. The explanation comes first; deciding to keep a service, cancel it, or request a refund comes later.

PennyGuard helps surface opportunities and prepares actions, but you stay in control before any request is sent.

    Subscription Review and Cancellation Support

Subscription detection uses bank and email data to spot recurring payments. The tool also looks for regular bills, trial periods, price increases, and duplicate charges. Those findings are a starting point for reviewing what you actually use.

For example, you might go through a list of subscriptions after a change in your routine. Some services may still be essential, others may be occasional, and a few may no longer make sense. PennyGuard helps organize that review without assuming every subscription should be canceled.

When you decide to cancel a service, PennyGuard can initiate cancellation requests through an AI agent, email, or a partner. Confirmation is required before anything is sent. The time to completion depends on the service, and you should treat a cancellation request as separate from a confirmed cancellation.

    Refund Requests vs. Bill Negotiation

Merchant refunds and bill negotiation both involve another organization’s response, but they address different situations. A refund request is about money already charged. Negotiation is about lowering a bill.

If you want a merchant to review a charge, PennyGuard can help submit a refund request after your confirmation. The useful output at that stage is initiation. Approval and the return of funds are separate outcomes.

If you want to keep a service but pay less, the path is negotiation through a partner. The intended result is a changed cost rather than ending the service.

Because timing depends on the merchant or provider, it helps to distinguish between the request you sent, the decision that came back, and the actual money impact.

    Notifications and Safe to Spend

PennyGuard includes notifications for renewals, trial endings, price changes, and unfamiliar charges. Email and in-app notifications are planned delivery methods. An alert may simply prompt you to make a conscious decision to keep a service unchanged.

The Safe to Spend feature answers a common question: how much may be left before your next deposit? It is an estimate, not a guarantee, so you should use it alongside commitments and upcoming expenses when weighing a purchase.

PennyGuard does not hold money, transfer funds, pay bills, or open financial products. Its role is to keep you informed and help you decide what deserves attention.

How to Use PennyGuard in Practice

Start with the question you actually have:

    • If the purchase is staying, look at card benefits.
    • If the charge is unclear, seek context.
    • If a recurring service is no longer useful, consider a cancellation request.
    • If the issue is a past charge, think about refund assistance.
    • If the issue is a high ongoing bill, explore negotiation.

Then identify what result you are looking at: information displayed, an action you confirmed, or a completed outcome. That distinction is the thread that connects PennyGuard’s planned features without making them interchangeable.

PennyGuard is scheduled to launch on October 15, 2026. For current product information, consult the official PennyGuard site.

  • Nifty 50 and Sensex Slide as Indian Markets Open Lower on US-Iran Tensions

Nifty 50 and Sensex Slide as Indian Markets Open Lower on US-Iran Tensions

The Indian stock market opened lower on September 28, 2026, as US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, escalating geopolitical tensions. The Nifty 50 opened 75.6 points (0.33%) lower at 23,064.90, while the Sensex declined 160.91 points to 73,734.83. The Bank Nifty also fell 232.6 points to 55,347.80.

The Indian rupee weakened by 7 paise to Rs. 95.88 per dollar. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs. 3,696 crore on September 25, extending their selling streak, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs. 2,838 crore during the session.

    Sensex Technical Outlook

According to Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited, the Sensex continues to exhibit a sideways-to-bearish trend. The 73,200-73,450 range is emerging as a key support zone. Sustained buying above 74,000 could reinforce recovery and push the index toward 74,200-74,500. However, a breach of the support zone may trigger renewed selling pressure. Traders should monitor the 73,500-74,000 range and changes in open interest for confirmation of the next move.

    Nifty 50 Technical Outlook

The Nifty 50 remains under short-term selling pressure with a corrective trend, and the weekly structure indicates weakness. The daily RSI at 34 reflects weak momentum. A meaningful recovery would require sustained buying interest. The immediate hurdle is at 23,350, followed by resistance at 23,500-23,600. On the downside, support lies at 23,050-22,960, with 22,800 as the next important level. A decisive breakdown below 23,000 on higher volumes would reinforce the bearish structure.

    Bank Nifty Technical Outlook

The Bank Nifty declined 1.38% and extended its losing streak to five consecutive weeks, trading below key moving averages. The immediate support is at 55,000, and a break below could bring 54,400 into focus. On the upside, 56,800 remains the key resistance. Experts suggest a “sell on rise” strategy as long as the index stays below this resistance. A bounce toward 56,100-56,200 could provide an opportunity to initiate fresh short positions.
